Twitter for President
Welcome back
Twitter was a big hit at SXSW; I think that had something to do with it being a large number of people sharing a similar experience. Twitter seemed to make it easy to organize decentralized groups. With the social-networking side of Twitter people are able to form highly dynamic groups that stay in close communication regardless of proximity. The @usersname convention that has been adopted to reply to people adds a viral buzz aspect to allow information to spread like wildfire.
This is going to have a huge impact on the 2008 elections (as long as Twitter adoption keeps growing). There has been lots of talk about 2008 being The YouTube Election. While I am sure YouTube will be a popular campaign tool in 2008, Twitter is going to be a much more valuable tool to the thousands of political operatives.
Note: I am assumming a critical mass of Twitter users will turn on SMS notifications. That may be a bad assumption since some people have to pay for each SMS they receive.
