I have not been able to find a good tool for entering a training plan online. My ideal solution would make it easy for me to create my own training plan and then track that against my actual performance. It looks like I might be able to do that with the premium version of training peaks, but I am not quite sure. I REALLY wish that I could do this with RunKeeper.
In the meantime, I am just going to post my calendar here with good ole HTML.
The basic ideas behind the plan are this:
- This training plan is for the Country Music Marathon in 2012.
- I am encorporating the Greenway Marathon as a long training run.
- I wil run the Frostbite Half-marathon and the Tom King Half-marathin as training races; my goal will be to run these faster than my marathon pace.
- Long runs are on Saturdays with training runs on Mondays and Wednesdays and fast runs on Fridays.
- I will continue doing the Circuit Blast class at the Y on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is also in the “speedwork” category.
- I am hoping that I will be able to join the East Nasties for some of my Wednesday runs and the Nashville Striders for some of the long runs on Saturdays.
Last year I “finished” the Country Music Marathon; this year I am really going to run it. I am not sure where my potential is, but I am running my “race pace” runs at a speed that would qualify for Boston.

Hey Jackson, you can definitely create your own plan and then track against actual with the Premium Edition. If you didn’t want to keep planned future workouts in TrainingPeaks and just log actual, you could use the free Basic Edition. If you use any kind of device, you can also upload your workout files.
Good luck with your training!
Thanks for the info David!
It seems that Training Peaks is the only solution that includes planning. I am using RunKeeper on my phone now, which I don’t think can export to Training Peaks, but I am planning on getting a GPS watch soon.
When you start looking for a GPS watch, check out DC Rainmaker’s blog at http://www.dcrainmaker.com/. He does a ton of great workout device reviews.
