Excel at your Core Competency
It often amazes me how tech companies can fail to protect their core competencies when "upgrading" or adding features to their products. Are they so worried about adding more new stuff that they are willing to sacrifice the core functionality that is the same core functionality that all of their competitors provide? That is how it appears to their customers. When a company sacrifices their core competency in an attempt to seperate themselves from the competition they are no longer able to compete since they appear incompetent.

While there is of course a specific incident that prompted me to make this post, the post was intented to be general and not targeted. I have observed this problem with numerous tech companies.
Mena has posted an entry entitled Quality is a Feature. She does a much better job saying what I was trying to say in Excel at your Core Competency. It is a great read. She is speaking in reference to the evolution of MovableType. Kudos to Mena and S
