Career Choices

by Jackson Miller on October 5th, 2005

I just read an interesting post at darrenmorris.com about career choices. Darren (and his friend Alan as well as many of us technical types) has shifted back and forth between working on a software product and doing consulting. The trade-off, he says, is with consulting you travel too much and with product development you are stuck working on the same ole codebase day after day.

I am taking a third option. I have accepted a new job. It looks like it will be mostly a project coordination role with some development from time to time. I don’t know exactly what it will entail, but I know that I will not be working on the same ole codebase everyday and I will not be traveling much.

I will miss you so much Jackson!

I am so glad it is the year 2005 and we have blogs to keep up with each other’s lives. At least now I’ll still have a voyeuristic view into your opinions and news.
