Blackberry Observation
I am around a ton of blackberries these days. People on planes have them. People in hotels have them. Peoplein corporate headquarters have them. Sure people in these places have lots of other devices too, but there is something I have noticed about Blackberry users. They are always typing.
I have a Treo. It is my primary means of email these days, but I am usually reading on my treo, not writing. The same seems to be true for HTC and Q users as well.
So what is it about Blackberries? Does their featureset lend itself to people who want to send lots of messages? Are all these executives busy telling everyone else what to do? Maybe the Blackberry users are sending orders to the Treo users? Or maybe it is something else.
Maybe the Blackberry has very limited functionality aside from sending email (and other forms of writing). Maybe (and I think this is more likely) people who want to do more with their phone than just messaging choose a device other than a Blackberry. People who want to do more may tend to choose other mobile devices. The desire to write probable correlates to the existence of a qwerty keypad on your phone.
I can’t mention mobile devices these days without thinking about the iPhone. I am thinking the I like writing too much to not have a qwerty keypad. Unless of course Apple wows me with the clickwheel of text entry.
Note: This entry was written (though not posted) from 35,000 feet in the air with my Treo.
