I got a new tattoo today. This is my third tattoo. It has been 10 years since I got my last tattoo.
It is a tradition of sorts to get tattoos that signify a milestone in your life whether it is the crossing of the equator or the passing of a friend. All of my tattoos have been about looking forward in an attempt to define my future instead of acknowledging my past.
Here is my new tattoo:
It is a lotus flower on my left forearm. An open lotus flower represents attained enlightenment. Obviously that is not my experience yet, but it is a permanent reminder. While it is not something I fully understand yet, I hope that my understanding will grow and that this tattoo can serve as a reminder.
The tattoo on my right forearm has served a similar purpose. It is a constant reminder of a key belief. As my life changes it has been helpful to remember a little of the passion and idealism from my younger days. This new tattoo is the next step.
