What is our greatest calling? Is it not to love our neighbor as we love ourselves? (or in eastern terms, oneness)
Maybe you disagree with the premise, but if you accept the premise then follow me on this thought. Should Maslow’s Heirchy of Needs define how we love others as we love ourselves?

So, on a very basic understanding we should make sure that others are fed, sheltered, and healthy before we worry about our own personal achievements. That is a tall order and a tough calling that I don’t expect most to be able to follow. I mean, we are not all Jesus or Siddhartha.
Politics seems like a small opportunity to look at what our priorities should be if we were able to answer our highest calling and at least attempt to structure our society in that way. Doesn’t it?
As I listen to the Presidential candidates talk about health care and food prices and the housing/credit crisis, I can’t help but feel energized that we have an opportunity to vote for a candidate who understands that our focus should be on making sure that every American has their needs met.
