It does seem odd, doesn't it, that Apple hasn't embraced 3G in any of their products yet? It wouldn't be the first time Apple was last on-board with a major feature, though (USB anyone?). Makes you wonder how many decisions are based on whether his Steveness personally wants it. (If Steven is always near Wi-Fi and therefore doesn't need 3G in his MacBook, then none of us need 3G in our MacBooks.)

On the other hand, 3G chips are still relative power hogs and add significant cost, but aren't demanded by a majority of the target buyers. There's also the issue of having to partner with a single service provider and AT&T is not a leader in 3G provisioning at this time. I doubt a partnership with Sprint for integrated 3G would strengthen the relationship with AT&T and could very well be prohibited by the iPhone exclusive agreement.

And so we wait.

Speaking of waiting, I'm still confident that Apple will release a firmware update for Airport Extreme that will allow wireless Time Machine backups. But I don't expect it to be released until after Time Capsule ships.
