Thoughts from 30,000 Feet
- As much as I am frustrated with MySQL these days, the MySQL Administrator tool is pretty nice these days.
- Spending lots of time in airports puts many faces on the war in Iraq. I see lots of soldiers coming and going. The country is too sheltered from this war.
- OmniOutliner is probably the single application with the largest positive impact on my productivity. (though I wish it had a way to share OPML files on a server like Dave Winder’s outliner.)
- Twitter is probably the single application with the largest negative impact on my productivity, but I think it may be too important to give up.
- I read an article on the plane about how BlackBerries, Treos, etc are enabling email addiction and that they are hurting people’s ability to concentrate because they are checking email all the time. With discipline, I have found the converse is true too; my Treo enables me to be productive while at my computer and handle email at down times (like while on the loo or sitting on a plane before it takes off or riding an elevator, etc). It does take a conscious effort and lots of discipline. I have my Treo set to not check email too early in the morning or too late at night and there are no audible alerts.
- My Treo 700p is a little big and I think I use it too hard. I am thinking about moving to a blackberry or the smaller Palm Centro. I still don’t want an iPhone.
- I am amazed at how well my MacBook Pro is running these days. I think the 64bit OS is making a big difference (in addition to the RAM and bigger hard drive)
- More and more I am thinking we can do statzen without outside funding. Sure, it would be great if an Angel wanted to buy in with $500,000; that would make things move faster and might increase the chances of success. The thing is, I think the odds of success are growing daily anyway. Maybe I am naive, but I really think we are gonna make this happen with or without.
- I do wish I had more time to devote to statzen. I would like to be providing better service for the alpha testers. There are still people I really want to get into the system that I haven’t been able to get to yet. Of course, I also wish I had more hours for development and publicity too. The time will come though.
- I am not having the MacBook Pro fan issues others are reporting after Leopard. Wonder if it is because I did a fresh install.
- I haven’t moved my OPML of RSS feeds back into NetNewsWire after doing the fresh install with Leopard. It has been nice, but I would have been able to add lots of links to this post if I had. Offline reading is a must for people who are on airplanes regularly.
- So, BlackBerry or Palm Centro?
- If BlackBerry, which one? 88**, 83**, 81**?
