Microblogging has definitely cut down on the number of posts to jaxn.org. However, microblogging is useful to me for near-real-time conversation. It is not much of a “public record” and feels more temporary. While it is great that microblogging is encouraging succinctness, there are times when I want to post just a little more or share an idea that I want to share with the readers of my blog. Instead of posting a bunch of short posts, I am going to try posting a summary of thoughts, comments, ideas, etc.
Apple $100 credit for iPhone early adopters.
What I think people are missing is that this has a very minimal cost to Apple. I don’t know what Apple’s average gross margin is, but let’s say it is 55%. That means that right off the top, the cost of the gift credits is down to $45 apiece. Then you take into account that the gift credits will require all of those early-adopter Apple fans to head to an Apple store (or the Apple store online). That gives a solid sales opportunity to people who already like Apple and are known to have expendable income. These people will likely spend more than $100 and may make a purchase they wouldn’t otherwise make. I bet we see more sales of Apple TVs, iPod Nanos, and other similarly priced goods (over $100 and less than $500). I have no idea why the stock price has gone down so much, but I see that as a great opportunity. Buy!
Intriguing Titles or SEO Keywords
I had an interesting sub-conversation come up yesterday. It was a brief comparison of the differences in titles that make you curious vs titles that give a clear indication of what the post is about. Ironically this post has a title that is on the intriguing/abstract side. Most of my titles are loaded with keywords (usually including the technologies or services I am writing about). The question is, which one gets more attention? The short answer is “it depends”
I know that my posts that are clearly about technology typically get the most reads in the short term. In the long term, the most popular posts are the ones whose titles promise an answer to a problem or question. However, that is just my blog. I will be really interested to revisit that question when I have a wider sample at my fingertips. Hmmm, aggregate statistics in statzen will be very interesting.
FOOTBALL SEASON IS HERE!
That is pretty much all I have to say on the subject. Go Titans!
Wordpress 2.3 and Tags
Wordpress 2.3 has implemented tags. I think this is great. They have consolidated tags and categories so that it is a single taxonomy that can be flat and structured at the same time. I haven’t played with it much since I will have to change my theme to recognize Wordpress tags (I have been using the Ultimate Tag Warrior plugin). So, what is my gripe about tags in Wordpress 2.3? They do not respond to Keywords via XMLRPC. That is an obvious no-brainer that seems to have been completely overlooked. Bummer. I imagine it will be remedied shortly.
The great retail expansion of 2007
We are expanding. Soon there will be a location in Murfreesboro. Sweet.
Entrepreneurial Community in Nashville
I am debating joining the Nashville Junior Chamber of Commerce or something like that. I went to the NELAs last night and there is this community of business owners in Nashville that I have not been participating in. Part of me feels like I am passing up a good opportunity. Of course, the other part of me knows that I already have enough going on.
Sparkly Cooter
There is an independent film being shot in Columbia, TN this month. Sabrina it working on it as a costume designer. The name of the film is called “Sparkle and Tooter”. I keep wanting to call it “Sparkly Cooter” (I think that would have to be a movie about exotic dancers).
