In case you have been living under a rock, I am going to be attending BarCamp Nashville tomorrow.
As I am thinking about getting ready for the big event, I am also thinking about what technology I want to take with me. I sit at a laptop so much, I kinda don’t want to take it. I think that my Treo can provide all the connectivity I need (email, twitter, maybe an IRC client, web browser, sending pictures to flickr).
The problem is, I am one of the few that also has a mobile broadband card. Hell, I could allow my MacBook Pro to be an access point tomorrow (I do that for coworkers sometimes). I almost feel obligated to bring it. I just don’t want to be weighted down lugging the damn thing around for 12 hours.
I am thinking I will go sans laptop. In all honesty, I am hoping to meet people and talk about ideas, concepts, strategies, etc. I don’t really need a computer for any of that. At most conference-type events I would never leave my laptop at home because I need something to do when I get bored. If I get bored tomorrow I am going to find something else to do. After all, that is the joy of an unconference.
