Tyler at Sitening posted his WWDC predictions. That is a good idea. I decided to pull together m predictions into one place as well:
.Mac: .Mac is no longer going to be called .Mac. It is also no longer going to suck. Apple will be announcing a new synchronization / sharing services that will be in partnership with Google. This will extend to several (if not all) of the iLife and iWork apps. I am not excited about switching to Picasa over Flickr, but I am open to it. Google Spreadsheet and Google Calendar are givens. If we are incredibly lucky there will be web-service conduits tied into iSync, but that won’t be something announced from the stage.- iWork ‘07: Speaking of spreadsheets, iWork 2007 is going to have one and it is going to be announced at WWDC. In addition to a spreadsheet, iWork is also going to get a business programming language ala Visual Basic for Applications in Microsoft Office. This language is going to either be Ruby or it is going to be a Domain Specific Language created with Ruby.
- iPhone Development Opportunities: Whether it is a widget API or a full fledged development API, Jobs will announce the ability for third party developers to create applications for the iPhone. Apple is also going to help with the distribution and installation of these applications. iPhone users will be able to install iPhone apps straight from the phone. The distribution part will allow Apple to provide quality control and insure the installation process does not have a negative impact on the stability of the iPhone. Apple will not take any percentage of the proceeds from the sale of third party applications, their sole interest is in providing their users access to applications without risking instability of the iPhone.
There you have it. In a little more than 24 hours we will see how I did. Extra credit: ringtones on iTunes.
