Birth Blogging

5:00 AM We have arrived at the hospital. Sabrina’s water broke at about 3:00 AM. We are going to have our 4th son today.

6:00 AM Getting all settled in. The Pitocin has been started.
Getting settled in

6:05 AM I am pretty sure Sabrina will be pissed if I actually live-blog the birth. Updates may be infrequent.

On another note, we have no idea what to name this kid. I kinda like Theodore. Sabrina I think likes Mason or Miles. My dad made a keen observation last night; there probably aren’t going to be many boys named George born this year.

6:45 AM Spirits are good. My mom and aunt are on their way to the hospital. They are our reinforcements during labor and have been for the past two kids. My dad has the other kids at our house.

Zavier and Carter are pretty excited to have a new baby in the house; I am pretty sure Jake doesn’t really know what we mean when we talk about the new baby coming. Last night Zavier was expressing concerns that he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night if there was a new baby in his room. He was relieved to learn that the baby will be staying in my room, not his.

So, uh, what the hell are we going to name this kid? We know the middle and last names. ______ Jaxn Miller. Jesse? Michael? Andrew?

6:50 AM Contractions are getting stronger and are about 3 minutes apart.

7:00 AM A sure sign that things are progressing: I am no longer funny. (Well, I haven’t changed, but Sabrina is no longer willing to pretend that my jokes are funny.)

7:40 AM Sabrina got an epidural a few minutes ago. That should make the labor go a little smoother. Unfortunately I got pretty queezy and had to site down. I have gotten more and more queezy with each pregnancy. With Zavier’s birth I was solid as a rock; this time I think I may end up hitting the floor.

8:20 AM My mom and aunt are here. We are just sitting here waiting for the contractions to do their thing. I’m hungry. Sabrina is in good spirits even though the contractions are strong. You gotta love modern medicine.

9:00 AM I am thinking about going to get something to eat. I would feel much less guilty about it if Sabrina would take a nap ;). Everything is progressing nicely though. The baby’s heartbeat is steady and the vitals all seem good.

9:40 AM Ok, wow! That happened way faster than I expected. I went to get something to eat and got a call that I should come back. In a matter of minutes our new baby boy was in my arms breathing fresh air. Sabrina was a trooper even though the epidural wore off just before the birth.

Here are some early-life pictures:

Born at 9:17 AM. Weighing in at 8lbs 15oz.  He is 22" long.

I will update more soon.

10:29 AM I didn’t really indend to live-blog today. It just sort of happened. It is not that I am so obsessed with blogging that I felt the need, I swear. By the fourth child I was just so familiar with the process that it was easy to do updates in real time.

It is pretty cool that we were able to have pictures out to friends and family within 5 minutes of birth. We were able to send out text messages to dozens of people at a time. It is like social-networking has really arrived.

So, what are we gonna name this kid? So far it seems that Jesse and Henry are the front-runners.

12:03 PM The unnammed baby is back in the room after being cleaned up and checked out. I took a picture of Sabrina and him just before his first feeding.
