My thought is that when we burn our own discs and are not buying pre-burned discs in stores, it no longer matters if a single format wins. I won't need to have both Blu-Ray and HDDVD.

We are not quite there, but I think this will be more like the Flash Memory war. Memory Stick, SD, MiniSD, etc all coexist peacefully. If you buy a Sony camera it will have a Memory Stick, just about everything else is a variant of SD. It will probably be that all Sony stuff runs Blu-Ray while everything else is pretty much HDDVD. It won't matter to us since we will not be buying discs with content on them.

I enjoyed your take on Blu-ray HDDVD. You said we'd be burning the disc's ourselves in a few years. How would one format win eventually? or is there not going to be a winner?
