Ever since 1997 I have been buying a new laptop every 2 years, almost like clockwork. I got a little off when I had an HP die unexpectedly. In January I will have had my Powerbook for 2 years.
It seems like I just started using Apple hardware yesterday. Since I bought my Powerbook I have also bought an iPod, upgraded OSX to Tiger, bought my wife an Intel iMac, and bought more specialty software than every before. This Powerbook has been my favorite computer of all time.
I am not sure if I will wait longer than 2 years to replace my laptop or not. If I do then I will be able to sell my old laptop for a meaningful price (which was never true when my old PCs were getting cycled out). Sometimes I give Sabrina my old laptops when I am done with them, but she has an iMac now and loves it, my old Powerbook would be a step down for her. One thing is for sure, when I buy a new computer it will be another Apple (most likely a MacBook Pro).
Many families are looking to buy new computers during this back-to-school season. Do yourself a favor and buy a Mac. If you are buying a computer for a college student then I would strongly recommend buying a MacBook (and getting a free iPod).
