Brackish Scene

I just read a good post by Mark Mays over at the Nashville Scene’s weblog. Mark is a guy that I think I would get along well with if he wasn’t so damn elitist. It turns out that the tag of elitist has been thrown around a little much lately (and I addressed The Alure of Elitism just the other day). Anyway, this is not another post about elitism.

In the comments to Mark’s post there was a catfight between Brittney (the professional blogger for WKRN) and Tracy (the author of the Buddytown piece in this week’s Nashville Scene). While I am used to seeing bickering and arguing on the blogosphere, I don’t think it is every day you see two traditional media companies battling it out in comment threads.

There is something special going on in Nashville. Maybe it is going on elsewhere too, but the mixing of traditional media and bloggers (for lack of a better word) is creating a new environment. Just like the brackish water where the Mississippi meets the Gulf of Mexico in Lake Ponchatrain, only certain species will be able to survive in this environment. Those that are able to exist here will be able to see the sharks take on the alligators. Maybe it is more likely that the snapper will just dine on crawfish instead of shrimp. (wouldn’t you prefer crawfish to shrimp?)
