Is Sprint’s Samsung MMA-900 Locked

Lawrence Lessig wrote about stanford looking for stories about locked cell phones. While I have heard some claims of the a900’s bluetooth being locked, I actually don’t think that is the case. However, I do know that Sprint/Samsung seems to have locked the address book and other data stores from J2ME, which seriously cripples the ability of developers to write software for the phone to do things that Sprint does not control.

Now I have not experienced this lock first hand since I have not started trying to write my sync application for the a900 yet, but from what I hear, this lock will prevent me from being able to write a SyncML service for the Samsung a900.

Can anyone verify (or debunk) what I am saying? Are there other ways Sprint and Samsung have locked down the a900?
