Frozen iPod

Update: Lots of people find this page trying to figure out how to reset their iPod. Let’s cut to the chase:

  1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

I left my iPod in the car last night. It was still playing and the battery completely died. This morning I got in the car and reached my iPod and it was as cold as a block of ice. Last I remember, extreme cold is not good for electronics, but I tend to assume that there is not much extreme cold in Nashville.

So this morning I get into my car and plug in my new car charger for the iPod. I plugged in the iPod but it wouldn’t respond. I thought maybe it just needed to build up a little juice before it could respond so I left it charging while I drove to work. When I got to work the iPod still wouldn’t respond. I plugged it into my laptop to charge, but still nothing. I thought maybe there wasn’t enough juice coming from the laptop so I plugged it into the wall (I was getting desperate).

Still nothing.

HOLY SHIT I FROZE MY iPOD!!!

Nah, it turns out I just had a “frozen iPod” (in another sense). This article from Apple was very helpful. Though luck would have it that it wasn’t until I tried the very last option that it worked.

Yeah, that is what the Apple article says to do. If it doesn’t work then you have to do it with one finger on the center button and a separate finger on the menu button.
