What should I teach my kids about Police? How do I explain to them that their job is to serve and protect yet all too frequently their power is abused. How do I explain to my children that police officers sometimes get corrupted by the power? How do I explain that sometimes police are so scared behind their badge that they will take another human life? How do I explain that the police don’t do a good job of policing the police? How do I explain that with all of that, most police officers are good and can be trusted?
Those are they questions that came up for me after reading my wife’s entry Police Officers and Power Trips, Hand in Hand?
I have had very few good experiences with police officers. In fact, some of my worst and most stressful experiences have been with officers. Recently in Nashville, a 21 year old died after being tazed 19 times by around 6 officers. 1 guy, no weapon and 6 officers with at least one weapon each. COME ON, there is an obvious imbalance here.

I don’t even want to talk to my kids about police officers because I don’t want to give them a negative impression. Is there an officer out that who can debunk this? Maybe the media should bring back positive police stories. Instead of “if it bleads, it leads”, maybe they could try “if it’s a heroic stunt, it’s up front”.
