Am I Missing Something

Often times I do miss the issue at first, but I don’t see the big deal. Harold Gilchrist posted why he thinks Apple’s announcement that iTunes will have podcast integration means trouble for iPodder specifically, and seems to imply this is a problem for podcasting in general. Dave Winer seems to share the concern.

What is the big deal? I don’t expect this to change how I consume or publish podcasts at all. I love the RSS integration into OS X, and that has changed (for the better) how I consume podcasts. I just don’t see how iTunes integration and some pay-content podcasts will change much.

As for the larger question of whether or not open source can lead a revolution when big businesses are playing in the same game I just don’t see why it changes what we do. Does an open source project need to care as much about market share as companies do?
