This is a guest post by my beautiful wife: Erica Miller.
Here we go, another summer with six kids.
This year’s challenge: no nanny, no camps, and a husband working from home.
Today is the fourth day of the first week and pros and cons of summer vacation are already making themselves clear.
I’ll skip the cons (just let your mind wander, then times it by a gazillion) and tell you about this summer’s marquee attraction: The 2012 Middle Tennessee YMCA Pool Tour.
How it works
The Middle Tennessee YMCA Pool Tour is contained in a glass mason jar in our breakfast room, but sends the imaginations of my five sons and daughter soaring. We’ve printed out the names of all the middle Tennessee YMCAs on slips of paper and will draw them out one at a time. The lucky (unlucky?) YMCA will get a visit from our brood, plus any accompanying play dates who are with us, and we’ll write reviews on its worthiness as a family swimming establishment.
Don’t miss: Zavier’s one liners, Jacob’s Speedo Watch and my perspective as the accompanying parent.
Skip: Swim break (nobody likes it), Max’s 2 p.m. whiney spells and Henry’s paralyzing fear of water (terribly inconvenient but he’s family, so we’re stuck with it).
Important note: Margaret Maddox YMCA in East Nashville is our home base. We call it the U. Uuuush. As in “usual.” We default there and it’s our basis of comparison for the other pools. You’ll find us there most days unless it’s what my kids call a “travel day,” or those exciting occasions when we’re on pool tour.
Hope to swim with you soon!
Erica
