Bummer.

I am glad some Democrats took a stand, but it was too little, too late (as in way too little, way too late).

Five Democratic presidential hopefuls participated in the (mock) filibuster (Kerry, Clinton, Feingold, Biden, Bayh). I actually support filibustering Alito, but the momentum should have been built up long ago. I am glad they organized and stood up, but if they are going to make a difference they are going to have to learn to mount a more formidable defense.

It is not a coincidence that the State of the Union is tonight. I actually think the filibuster was really just an attempt to delay the confirmation until after the State of the Union. President Bush came out better than any Republican.

Mark Warner came out of this better than any other Democrat who is a contender in 2008.
